Primary Practice Areas: Litigation

Civil Litigation is a broad process that resolves a disagreement between two or more people, where people could be individuals, a business or even government agencies.  Typically, people in a dispute attempt to resolve the disagreement between themselves before resorting to legal action.  After attorneys are involved, there are often discussions in an attempt to settle the dispute as well.  However, in many cases, a court case must be started.  The case can still be settled outside a courtroom before trial, but if it can’t, a judge or jury will decide the dispute.  If damages are awarded, the goal is to make the party that was hurt, “whole” for the damages they suffered as a result of the other party’s actions.  There is no criminal sentence associated with a civil matter.

Civil litigation can be complex. Mr. Sofocleous’ focus begins with a thorough factual investigation. He supplements the investigation with extensive research of the legal, medical, engineering, scientific and financial issues, relevant to the particular case.  His goal is to make complicated facts, legal principles, medical conditions, scientific information and financial data easy to understand for a judge and/or jury so that they can easily see why you deserve an acceptable award or why you are not responsible for the damages.

Some examples of representation provided by Mr. Sofocleous are:

  • Contract disputes
  • Enforcement of promissory notes, landlord tenant issues, quieting title to real estate, together with other civil actions.
  • Suits to enforce a Judgment Creditor’s Lien thru sale of a debtor’s real estate
